The Aozora Free Pass is a rail pass by JR Tokai (JR Central), providing one day of unlimited usage of local JR trains in the Greater Nagoya region on weekends and national holidays.

Validity

  1. Unlimited use of local JR trains (incl. kaisoku) around Nagoya as shown on the map above.
  2. The pass does not cover shinkansen and limited express trains. If you take a limited express, nevertheless, you have to pay the limited express fee additionally. If you take a shinkansen, you will have to pay the full ticket price.
  3. The pass is valid on one calendar day. It can be used only on Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays.

Assessment

This can be a worthwhile offer. For example, it pays off for a round trip from Nagoya to the Shima Peninsula, the Kiso Valley or Gero Onsen.

Alternative tickets

Depending on your itinerary and number of travelers, the Seishun 18 Kippu can be a better alternative to the Aozora Free Pass. Unlike the Aozora Free Pass, the Seishun 18 Kippu can be used on any day of the week, but is only available during school vacations.
