May 5, 2016 - Himi - hidden pearl in Toyama pref

I would like to share my very positive emotions got from a daytrip to Himi town, Toyama pref.
Staying in Kanazawa, we soon missed something smaller, countryside, more intimate. Hokuriku area map in hand, we noticed a remote place in Toyama pref called Himi - in very end of railway.

Ca 80 minutes by train passing Takaoka and nice rural landscape, 1140 yen, 2 transfers - and here we are. Fresh air, windy but sunny, info desk right in station. Kind info-lady offered city map and 2 types of rental bicycles - normal and electrical. We choosed electrical by 500 yen per day, and no regrets. Oh why I donft have electrical bike at home?!?

Himi has about 50 thousand inhabitants and it looks like a lovely small rural Japanese town. Several beautiful old temples, beach, harbour, not-busy streets. Compact, cozy and wonderful. We had lunch plans to go to a seaside restaurant for fresh fish, but when passed shopping place called "Happy Towng, there was enough very good-looking bentos, so we changed plans and made a beach picnic instead. And the sushi was indeed fresh and tasty! This shop has also quite nice 100 yen shop, something I cannot ignore...

In harbour we needed to choose: if to go left, where were old castle ruins and where Noto peninsula starts, or right, where was a proper beach to take off shoes and walk in the water. As there was only 2 hours until 17.00 (when bikes need to be returned), we choosed walking in beach. After returning bikes we made one more long walk in town before going back to train.

Himi gave us wonderful day off from busy world, and actually I think it has enough to offer for several days stay. Himi may locate a bit "end of worldg, but it definitely has lot of charm. Perfect place for them who are looking for calm and happy break in this area of Japan. Hidden pearl, just too good to keep emotions only for myself.

Still some sakura in mid-April
