March 15, 2011 - Post-tsunami in Gunma

At the moment I am in Gunma Prefecture, about 100 kilometers northwest of Tokyo and 200 kilometers southwest of the Fukushima power plants.

My family and friends back home were pretty worried about the news when they heard about what was happening in Japan. Here things arent so bad. Some of the train lines around Tokyo have been delayed or stopped, but I havent really been affected. There have been long lines of cars at the gasoline stands, and some of them have been closed because they sold out already.

Cars wait in line to fill up their tanks

Most restaurants I have seen have still been open, but I saw a McDonalds today that I think was closed because of the earthquake. At the grocery stores there are some things that have sold out like instant ramen and bread snacks but the stores are still full of food for the most part.

The Ramen aisle was empty
Bread snacks were sold out too
Still a lot of vegetables
Still a lot of meat
