Check out my daily musings at http://tamdoesjapan.wordpress.com previous post index next post April 28, 2011 - Amazing hike in Chiba: Nokogiriyama If you're looking for an escape from Tokyo, I really recommend Nokogiriyama in Southern Chiba. You can take a ferry from Tokyo for 1000 yen round-trip and it's super fast to get there. Alternately, you can get there via train and enjoy the long, scenic ride through the rice patties. It was probably one of my favorite hikes in Japan, not because of the actual hike itself, but because of the scenery, lack of tourists and tourist facilities, and surrounding Buddhist complex. Make sure to get there before the "official" hiking season starts in Japan, which is pretty much right after Golden Week (a holiday starting 4/28 and lasting until 5/5).
