Cherry blossom timing 2013/2/19 18:03
Hi, I plan to go to Tokyo either between 3rd of Apr 2013 to 9 Apr 2013 OR 8th to 14th of April 2013. Is it too late to go to Tokyo to watch cherry blossom if I take the second option which is the second week of April? Our flight is also scheduled to arrive at 11pm so I was wondering how to get to the city without taking the taxi. Thanks!!

You can check this link for sakura. http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2011.html

I think you should be able to view sakura in both the travel options.
If you dont want to take Taxi then you'll have to take the train. I guess during that time airport limousine, narita express and keisei skyliner doesnt operate. But still you confirm the timings on their respective websites. We took a Rapid train from Narita bound for Tokyo when we landed during that time.

Thanks for that.
I'm just worried that by 9 apr there'll be no cherry blossoms left. Also, is Tokyo or Osaka better for nice views of cherry blossoms?

Here are a couple more reference sites for forecast of cherry blossom this year.

Both Tokyo and Osaka have good spots for viewing sakura, but if you can only go for one I would choose Osaka. Besides Osaka a short train ride away is Kyoto which is another very popular destination for cherry blossom. And above all a highly worthwhile side trip from Osaka is Yoshino which is considered to be a pilgrimage place for sakura by the people of Japan. There is even a sakura festival with colourful parade on April 11-12.

Either one is fine. They bloom earlier in the west and the further east, the later they bloom. Osaka a little earlier than Tokyo. Hirosaki later than Tokyo, etc.

It's pretty hard to time it right, especially if it's a short trip. Last year I followed the sakura forecast, but due to cold weather, I arrived just too early for the cherry blossoms. People who went a few days later came home with beautiful pictures.

This year I booked my trip early april, if the forecasts are right, I'll be late this year -__-

We-unfortunately-are travelling to Japan(Tokyo) 28 of April. We are not going to see anything? Is it too late for cherry blossom?

The latter half of April is too late for cherry blossom in Tokyo, consider going up north to the less visited yet beautiful Tohoku region. If the forecast is correct your time of visit would be just right for sakura in Aomori Prefecture.

Hirosaki Castle and the castle park is a very popular site for cherry blossom in the region. Every year there is a sakura festival with evening illumination held on site from late April to early May.
