Private onsen in Kansai 2013/2/20 14:51
I was wondering if anyone new of good private onsen/kazokuburo/ in the Kansai area? Preferably not too far from Osaka (a couple of hours) and not too expensive to book/reserve.
Ideally an outdoor one, but doesn't have to be. Open to any suggestions.

Thanks!

I am not sure of what you mean by a private bath, but you can search at JAPANiCAN for Online reservations that include an Ensuite open-air bath. I am posting a search of the Wayayama prefecture (just south of Osaka) that includes 6 such hotels.

Under the hotel preferences, click on the MORE tab. More possible restrictions will be presented to you. Click on the box that says Ensuite open-air bath. I looked at the least expensive one, the Hotel Tenzankaku, and it appears that every balcony has a private bath built into it. It is in Shirahama, which is a hot springs beach resort about two hours south of Osaka.

You could search other prefectures near Osaka for additional hotels that have such ammenities.

If you are looking for a more private mountain like setting, there are also small Onsen towns inland in the Wakayama prefecture. I have included a link to the Ryujin Onsen area, which is one of many. It is midway between Mount Koya, and Tanabe, which is on the coast.

There are also three others near Hongu Taisha. They are Kawayu, Watarase, and Yunomina Onsens. You will need to take a bus to get to any of these places. Each of these is accessible using the Wakayama Kansai Pass, which I have included a link.

I have never stayed at any of these places, so I cannot give a personal recomendation. I have stayed at the Hotel Urashima in Katsuura, which has two sea cave hot springs, but it is not private.

A lower cost sugestion would be to use the public beach hot spring in Shirahama. It is a bathing suit required hot spring.

I hope this helps.
