Cheapest way to get from Tokyo to Kyoto 2013/3/1 21:47
We are going to Tokyo (2nd time!) in September and we are wondering what is the cheapest way to get from Tokyo to Kyoto - i assume by bullet train. the japan rail pass seems quite pricey just for Kyoto - also does anyone know if its cheaper to buy from the UK rather than buy when we get there?

No, the cheapest is by bus. All your options are explained here:

Hi

I sometimes used the services of Willer Travel Night bus between Kyoto and Tokyo.
The advantages:
-cheap.
-Economy price of one night's hotel
disadvantages
-three judgments
-difficulty sleeping ...
But I do not sleep well "usually" ...

Just be sure to book "RELAX" seat at willer express (STANDARD or VALUE can spoil your trip). It will be almost twice cheaper than bulit train plus "no hotel required" profit.
