Can I get to Yamadera on a JR Pass? 2013/3/4 16:32
Hi, I have 3 days (15/16/17 plus morning of 18 April) to do whatever I want provided it is on the JR pass and the accommodation isn't too expensive....
So I'd like to do a bit of hiking around the temple complex and up to teh view over the valley.
Just wondering if it's insanely expensive or if I can't get there, etc, etc, etc??
Please help??!

Yamadera is along a JR line. So, if your starting point is also along a JR line, you should be able to get there with your pass.

Access to Yamadera is explained here:

What about the accommodation rates there? Can I even actually stay in Yamadera? I haven't found anything about it :/

I think it's easier to stay at Sendai.. and if you have JR pass, you can go to Matsushima too..

I googled it and one came up in Yamadera. Search accommodation sites. If they don't suit, stay in Yamagata. Don't need to go to Sendai.
