Hakodate to Lake Toya - toll free way? 2013/3/12 00:35
Hi,

I will drive from Hakodate to Lake Toya next month.

Will I see more if I take the toll free way to Lake Toya?
I would like to see some some villages or shops during my drive.

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply.

What I want to know if it's worth to skip the express highway and take the other roads in Hokkaido?

I went from Hakodate to Otaru by car with a passage near Lake Toya.
If you have a day ... Take the small roads, otherwise find quickly the expressway.

Go to "hunt" the volcano, there is a youth in the region ...

Time-wise the drive from Hakodate to Toya-ko is about 2 hrs 15 min if using the expressway. If not it is just under 3 hrs. Both routes are quite similar and would roughly follow the coast most of the way after Onuma Quasi-National Park which is worth a stop for the scenery. Onuma Park is a very popular destination for autumn foliage but during the latter half of April it also has some unique mizubasho blooms.
