Should I get a JR Pass? 2013/3/15 06:59
Hi! Our family of 5 is traveling to Japan next week. Our itinerary is as follows:

Mar 25 -30 Tokyo (day trip to Hakone on Mar 27)
March 30-Apr 1 Osaka
Apr 1-3 Kyoto (with a day trip to Nara)
Apr 3-5 - back to Osaka
Apr 5 - departure Osaka

I would like to ask if it is practical for me to purchase a 7 day JR pass of would it come our cheaper to just buy point-to-point tickets.

Thanks!

The 7 day JR Pass would be overkill for your itinerary, as you're not returning to Tokyo for your departure. Individual tickets will be cheaper.

I think it would barely break even in your case if you maximise it. I wouldn't buy it if I were you. Use this site to check point to point prices and you'll get a clearer picture:

Thanks for your feedback. We'll just purchase individual tickets.
