Kyushu Special Train Service 2013/3/22 15:31
I have went to JR Kyushu Website to look for the train service and timetable. But i have few question need to ask.

1) (The Hitoyoshi SL) I know i can only took it on the weekend. Is there any website with timetable for this train. Can i book it online. It mention On-board sales does it mean i can buy it on the train itself?

2) (Isaburo & Shinpeii) Was not mention much in the JR website. It there any website with timetable for this train. Can i book it online. It mention On-board sales does it mean i can buy it on the train itself? Is this train train only able to ride on weekend only or i can ride on weekday too?

I don't have complete details but here are some sites that I found useful last year in planning some Kyushu rail travel:
http://jprail.com/trains/sort-by-type/local-lines/local-train-izaburo-...
http://space.geocities.jp/hisakyu_rail/japan/index_eg.html
http://www.jrkyushu.co.jp/english/time_table/time_table.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyushu_Railway_Company

The special (leisure-oriented) LEX trains in Kyushu were absolutely fabulous and riding them was a highlight of my trip. The trip from Kirishima Onsen to Kumamoto was particularly great. I also liked the Yufuin-no-Mori train a lot. Even the "ordinary" LEX trains like the Sonic were fun and nice.

On-board sales just means that you can buy food and drink on the train, nothing to do with tickets. They have vendors that come around with fancy bentos, that kind of thing.

I got my reservations at JR stations after I arrived in Japan. I don't think you can reserve online in English, but I'm no expert on this.

Me again. I do remember that it was kind of hard to find information about the Isaburo-Shinpei train (but it is a really neat one, so it's worth taking). Maybe someone else will be able to help you. Meanwhile, you can search online for more information. The Japanese name might help: いさぶろう・しんぺい

It will bring up, among other results you might want to explore, the JR Japanese page that shows the seating:
http://www.jrkyushu.co.jp/trains/isaburou_shinpei/
If you can read a little bit of Japanese, that page might be quite useful. In particular, it has a schedule. (I was not able to get this train to come up in Hyperdia, but if you enter the right details, maybe you can. Apparently it makes two round trips every day, and not just on weekends. But my Japanese is not very good, so don't trust me!)

One thing that I noticed about JR Kyushu trains is that if you just go to a random JR ticket office and make reservations, they tend to not give you very good seats! I think they just put you in the first row if that's open, by default, and it's usually not particularly good. I got skunked on a couple of these LEX trains--plenty of good seats open but my tickets were for seats on the "wrong" side or with blocked windows, that sort of thing. If you know where you want to sit in the train, you can try to ask for the better seats.
