JR Pass (Purchased in the US) 2013/3/25 06:13
My question pertains to the JR Pass that is only available to non-Japanese nationals. 1) Are there on and off privileges? (E.g. Pass is for NRT - Kyoto, get off at Tokyo.) 2) Can one backtrack (e.g. go back to and from Tokyo, from Kyoto)? The JR website indicated that there is no backtracking for passes. Is this correct?

Thanks.

The Japan Rail Pass allows for unlimited use of JR trains (with a few exceptions), including as much backtracking as you wish to do. The basics are explained here:

The pass is not restricted to only non-Japanese. Japanese residing abroad on the proper visa/green card can take advantage of it as well.
