Kibi Plains cycling in January 2013/4/22 19:26
We didn't get a chance to cycle on the Kibi plains when we visited last year because of spring rain. We plan to be back in early 2014, probably January and wonder if anyone has been and done the bike ride at that time of year. If not can anyone confirm whether we are likely to get ice or snow. We have seen snow in both Kyoto and Tokyo in previous visits but it wasn't on the ground long. However I did get caught by surprise by the amount of snow in Hikone and Nagahama so thought I'd check.

Snow is even rarer in Okayama than it is in Kyoto and Tokyo. You would have to be very unlucky to hit a snowy day. Make sure to bring gloves.

Thanks Uji. Will definitely remember to bring the gloves and warm hat for a winter visi, coming from our tropical summer we'll feel the cold quite a bit.

The pictures here were mostly taken in January:

Okayama is known as the "Land of Sunshine", so it tends to get less rain/snow than most other parts of Japan (the northern part of the prefecture gets snow/rain because of the mountains and Sanin Coast).

It's a little cold and not much is going on in the rice paddies but January is actually still a very nice time to bike the Kibi Plains.
