Visit Hakone vs Mt Fuji 2013/4/29 19:40
Hi, i have plan a day trip visit to Hakone in May 2013 and would like to ask the following:-

(1) Do you think it will worth to visit Mt Fuji in view that i have visited Hakone?

(2) If i plan to visit Mt Fuji, what will be the attraction there? Can it be done in half day?

(3) With regards to the Fuji Shibazakura Festival, is the festival at Mt Fuji? How can i reach there from Shinagawa? Can it be done in half day?

Thanks for your response!

(1) (2) When you say "Mt. Fuji," I assume you are thinking about Lake Kawaguchiko area.
Attractions around Lake Kawaguchiko:

How to get there:

(3) Shibazakura Festival is held around the flower fields of pink moss that is about 30 minutes bus ride away from Lake Kawaguchiko. THe field is located where you can "view" Mt. Fuji, not "on/at" Mt. Fuji.

I guess if you want to look around Lake Kawaguchiko and visit the Shibazakura festival from Shinagawa or anywhere in central Tokyo, it will be a full-day tour.

I realized that from Shinjuku station, it can take "Holiday Rapid Kawaguchiko" to Lake Kawaguchiko.

(1) Is JR Pass applicable for the Holiday Rapid Kawaguchiko?

(2) At Shinjuku Station, how to board this train? Any sign at Shinjuku station stated about this Holiday Rapid Kawaguchiko?

(3) From where i can check the timetable for Holiday Rapid Kawaguchiko train if i would i want to travel to Fuji Shibazakura Festival on 12 May 2013?

Thanks.

Is JR Pass applicable for the Holiday Rapid Kawaguchiko?

The Japan Rail Pass and JR East Pass are valid on it as far as Otsuki. You have to pay the fare for the remaining section from Otsuki to Kawaguchiko.

The JR Kanto Area Pass fully covers the train.

At Shinjuku Station, how to board this train?

Here are some basics on using trains in Japan:

Any sign at Shinjuku station stated about this Holiday Rapid Kawaguchiko?

Yes, it will be listed on the signs in Shinjuku Station.

From where i can check the timetable for Holiday Rapid Kawaguchiko train if i would i want to travel to Fuji Shibazakura Festival on 12 May 2013?

The timetable for the Holiday Rapid Kawaguchiko #1 is as follows (operates on weekends and public holidays only):
08:14 Shinjuku
10:23 Kawaguchiko

Furthermore, there is a special "Fuji Shibazakura Matsuri" train that operates on May 11, 12, 18 and 19 only:
08:33 Shinjuku
10:58 Kawaguchiko
