Day hikes from Tokyo 2013/5/1 16:45
Hi all,

I am looking for recommendations for day hikes, easily reachable from Tokyo. I am hoping to do a nice hike this Sunday with my girlfriend, who is very much a beginner, although we did recently enjoy walking up Takao-san. So something similar to that would be perfect.

Many thanks, and have a nice Golden Week!

Rich :)

Thanks for the suggestion :) It looks a bit too far away though, with a couple of trains/a bus/a ropeway.

Any other recommendations that are relatively easy/quicker to access?

Thanks again.

Actually, Mount Mitake sounds perfect having done a bit more research, thanks!

Which train station is the best for beginning a hike? I want to avoid taking a bus to the ropeway station as it will no doubt be crowded and I want to hike rather than go for the easy option.

Is it right that Kori Station is a good starting point?

Thanks :)

For some nature close by, how about THE INSTITUTE FOR NATURE STUDY - http://www.ins.kahaku.go.jp/english/index.html .

I lived in Saitama many years ago on the Tobu Tojo line. I don't remember where exactly, but somewhere out aways towards Chichibu there were some nice hikes with temples, hilly views, and even a dairy farm. Googling tobu tojo hike brought me to http://www.town.ogawa.saitama.jp/english/kankou/e-kanno-h.html .

You can consider Chichibu National Park itself. Neither is very close to central Tokyo unfortuantely.

Hi!(^-^)/
I'm going to hike with my girlfriend, we are just beginners.

In Kamakura, there is a hiking corse called Ten'en form Kencho-ji temple to Kamakura-gu shrine via Mt.Oohira-yama(159m).

Before we were tired to go up Hansoubou in the back of Kencho-ji temple only.(x_x;)

In Chiba, Mt.Nokogiri-yama(329m) seems to be artificial but interesting.

This ropeway is actively publicized on the subway Asakusa/Keisei line.

This walk near Ome looks very good (I haven't been there) and the azaleas should still be flowering.

Mitake-san: If your girlfriend is a beginner, the hike once you get to the top will be tough enough. I suggest simply taking the bus to the ropeway station (the view along the bus is not that spectacular, and the ride is short anyway).

Other suggestion: Or try Hitsujiyama park for pink moss flowers. You take the Seibu line to Chichibu, and it's a leisurely walk from there.

I was a beginner (read: not fit at all) when I did Mitake- Loved it!

Take the bus from the train station for sure- then decide about the cable ride that will take you partially up. I took the cable car and still getting to the top was a good challenge.

I did it as a day trip from Tokyo it was perfect.

Enjoy your Golden Week
