Travelling around Sun Resporia Atami 2013/5/3 01:19
First time to Japan next month and would be staying at Sun Resporia Atami. Please help with my queries as follows:

1) cheapest transportation between Atami and Tokyo (travel by Shinkansen is very costly)

2) from Atami, how to get to Disneyland/ DisneySea? Which theme park is better and where to get discount admission tickets?

3) from Atami, how to get to (a)Mt Fuj (b)Yokohama?

1) cheapest transportation between Atami and Tokyo (travel by Shinkansen is very costly)

I think the cheapest way is to take the Odakyu Line from Shinjuku to Odawara, followed by a local train on the JR Tokaido Line, especially if you start your journey from Shinjuku, in which it costs only 1250 yen one way.

From Tokyo Station, the "Atami Resort Liner" bus costs only 1500 yen one way (2000 yen on weekends and holidays):

By local/rapid train along the JR Tokaido Line it costs 1890 yen one way.

2) from Atami, how to get to Disneyland/ DisneySea?

Return to Tokyo Station and then take the JR Keiyo Line to Maihama Station.

Which theme park is better and where to get discount admission tickets?

It is personal preference. I prefer DisneySea. I am not aware of any ways to get discounted admission tickets.

3) from Atami, how to get to (a)Mt Fuj

It depends on where around Mount Fuji you want to go. If you want to get to its southern base, it is just a 30 minute train ride along the JR Tokaido Line.

(b)Yokohama?

The easiest is to take the JR Tokaido Line (1 hour, 1280 yen). Or you could take the shinkansen to Shin-Yokohama Station (20-30 minutes, 2960 yen by unreserved seat).

This is a useful tool to look up train connections and fares:

Thanks Uji for your tips.

can you please send me the link for item 1) on Atami Resort Liner in English version? i need to know the travelling time. Travelling out of Atami to Tokyo needs at least 2 hrs by normal train; its really very time consuming. do you have any tips on where to visit near Atami since I would be there for a week? no point travelling to/from Tokyo everyday for 4 hrs journey.

for item 3), does the JR Tokaido Line goes to Kawaguchiko station? do i have to go to the 5th station for a better view of Mt Fuji? is it good enough to just explore near Kawaguchiko station?

could you advice me how to go to Trick Art Museum in Karuizawa?

I don't think there is one.

i need to know the travelling time.

Here is the timetable:

09:30 depart Shinjuku Station West side
10:10 depart Tokyo Station Yaesu side
12:30 arrive Atami Station

14:50 depart Atami Station
17:10 arrive Shinjuku Station
17:40 arrive Tokyo Station

Travelling out of Atami to Tokyo needs at least 2 hrs by normal train; its really very time consuming

If time is an issue, you should take the shinkansen. Hikari trains require just 40 minutes for the trip from Tokyo Station.

The Izu Peninsula and Hakone.

does the JR Tokaido Line goes to Kawaguchiko station?

No.

do i have to go to the 5th station for a better view of Mt Fuji?

No, the 5th Station is halfway up the mountain. So, you can't really see the mountain very well.

is it good enough to just explore near Kawaguchiko station?

Yes, that area offers some of the best views in combination with the lake.

could you advice me how to go to Trick Art Museum in Karuizawa?

Hi Uji,

I need your advice on Mt Fuji. Keio Highway bus from Shinjuku departs only on weekends and it serves 2 routes:

1) Mt Fuji 5th Station (ie. Kawaguchiko 5th Stn, right?) OR
2) FujiQ Highland/Kawaguchiko/Fujisan Station

a) what attractions are there in these stations?
b) how to go to Fuji Visitor Center, Lake Kawaguchiko, post office?

I don't understand the above statement. Is it a question? A statement? If it is a statement, it is wrong.

The bus between Shinjuku and the 5th Station, indeed, operates only on weekends except during the climbing season when it operates daily.

Off season timetable:

But the bus between Shinjuku and Fuji Q Highland and Kawaguchiko Station operates every day of the week. Here is the timetable:

what attractions are there in these stations?
