Hi,
A few questions to ask:
1) What is the best time to check into a ryokan?
2) Am planning to visit Kyoto and stay at Momijiya Honkan Takao Sanso for a night in end June. But how do I get there? Looks very remote to me. I am planning to visit Arashiyama in the morning before making my way to the ryokan. Doesn't seem to have a good route to get there though.
Thanks for any advice in advance.

What is the best time to check into a ryokan?Between 3pm and 6pm: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2029.htmlAm planning to visit Kyoto and stay at Momijiya Honkan Takao Sanso for a night in end June. But how do I get there? It is located in Takao. Access is explained here: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3940.html#jump_accessThe ryokan is also operating a pick-up bus service from Tenjingawa and Hanazono Station, as explained on their official website: http://www.momijiya.jp/en/index.htmlI am planning to visit Arashiyama in the morning before making my way to the ryokan. Doesn't seem to have a good route to get there though. You can take the Randen train from Arashiyama to Ninnaji and take a bus from there. Or the JR train to Hanazono to get picked up. But unless you are on a low budget, I recommend to take a taxi to travel in between the two places. It should not cost more than 3000 yen.

Thanks!
Just an additional question, have anyone been to this ryokan before? should I spend my whole day at this ryokan?

You can't stay a whole day at a ryokan unless you stay two consecutive days. But even if you stay two consecutive days, it would be rather boring to spend the entire day at the ryokan. I recommend to explore the surrounding town of Takao at the very least.
I have not stayed there personally yet, but have seen it from the outside and featured in TV shows. I hope to go there once in the future for the riverside dining which looks particularly attractive to me.
