Asahikawa - Shiretoko National Park 2013/6/13 18:32
I am having a few questions here, as I can't read Japanese.

1.) Which train should I take from Asahikawa station to Abashiri station?

2.) What is the departure time and arrival time for those trains in October? if possible, return-trip as well

3.) From Abashiri station, which train should I take to reach Shiretoko-shari? Any additional train ticket I need to purchase? Besides, what is the departure time and arrival time for those trains in October? if possible, return-trip as well

4.) What are the timetable for the bus from Shiretoko-shari to Shiretoko National Park? if possible, timetable for return trip as well

Thank you for any help that I can get.

Which train should I take from Asahikawa station to Abashiri station?

The JR Okhotsk limited express train.

What is the departure time and arrival time for those trains in October?

The October timetables are not published yet, but are unlikely to change.

Asahikawa to Abashiri:

Abashiri to Asahikawa:
http://www.hyperdia.com/cgi/en/intervaltime.html?dep_node=ABASHIRI&arv...

The following website is generally very useful for looking up train connections:

3.) From Abashiri station, which train should I take to reach Shiretoko-shari?

Any local train along the JR Senmo Line.

Any additional train ticket I need to purchase?

It depends on when you will make the trip. If you make the trip from Asahikawa to Shiretoko-Shari within three days, you can use just a single base fare ticket for the entire trip. Just make sure to buy a base fare ticket from Asahikawa all the way to Shiretoko-Shari. If you do the trip over more than 3 days, then you will have to buy a separate ticket for the section from Abashiri to Shiretoko-Shari.

This is because a base fare ticket from Asahikawa to Shiretoko-Shari has a period of validity of up to three days.

Besides, what is the departure time and arrival time for those trains in October? if possible, return-trip as well

Same as above. The timetable for October has not been published yet, but is likely to be the unchanged. You can look up connections here:

What are the timetable for the bus from Shiretoko-shari to Shiretoko National Park? if possible, timetable for return trip as well

Thanks Uji for the reply.

I am having another question here. If I purchase a ticket from Asahikawa to Shiretoko-shari, is it possible for me to stop at Abashiri on the first day. Then depart from Abashiri to Shiretoko-shari on the second day?

Does the ticket for 3 days includes the return trip?

Will it be more worthy to get Hokkaido Rail Pass?

I have checked the website for the Hokkaido Rail Pass.

It stated there, the route between Sapporo-Asahikawa is not included. Besides, it seems like I have to pay additional fees if I need to use the route Asahikawa-Abashari. Is this true?

Sorry for all the troubles and questions.

Yes, as long as the entire trip is completed within at most three consecutive calendar days.

Does the ticket for 3 days includes the return trip?

No.

Will it be more worthy to get Hokkaido Rail Pass?

With regular tickets a round trip between Asahikawa and Shiretoko-Shari will cost around 16,000 yen. A 3-day Hokkaido Rail Pass costs 15,000 yen.

You can look up train fares here:
http://www.hyperdia.com/

And the cost for the Hokkaido Rail Pass here:

You must be mistaken. The Hokkaido Rail Pass is also valid on trains between Sapporo and Asahikawa.

Besides, it seems like I have to pay additional fees if I need to use the route Asahikawa-Abashari. Is this true?

No, the entire fare is covered by the Hokkaido Rail Pass.
