Shinkansen : high speed track(Max 270km/h),wide rail,No crossing(closed),No freight and more different.

"Local line" Japanese calling "Zai-rai-sen[在来線]" usual.


If means JR-East pass,JR West Pass or other pass/ticket question
covered lines different [Tokyo - Atami(A)] and [Maibara - Shin-Osaka(B)]
Local line : JR East(A) / JR West(B)
Shinkansen : JR Tokai(Tokyo - Shin-Osaka)
