Going to and around Kamakura 2013/8/1 12:20
Need your help, i would like to clarify that JR Shonan Shinkuju line is a direct train from Shinjuku to Kamakura and no need to transfer at Ofuna? Also please guide us how to walk to Great Buddha after we step out from Kamakura train station and do we need to buy an Enoden train ticket to get to Hase-Dera temple or its doable walking there from the great Buhhda
Thank you in advance for your guidance

1)
Odakyu[not JR] round tickets better.
http://www.odakyu.jp/english/deels/
Enoshima-Kamakura Freepass or Enoshima 1-day Passport

If want JR "Kamakura-Enoshima pass" exist but not round type from Shinjuku.
http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/pass/kamakura_enoshima.html
Shijyuku - Ofuna/Kamakura : 890Y(same)/one way
Pass purchase at JR Shinjuku and more major JR stn ticket counter in Tokyo.
Kamakura/Enoshima area not Tokyo.[Kanagawa PF]

JR Shonan-line(rapid) [down]
http://www.jreast.co.jp/tabidoki/green/image/map_b.jpg
operate 50% for Odawara[小田原] 50% for Zushi[逗子](all stop Kamakura) after Ofuna.
All trains[down/up] via and stop Shinjuku[新宿] and Ofuna[大船] red lines.
If wrong(for Odawara train) need transfer at Ofuna.

2)
To Budda[大仏] and Hase temple[長谷寺] very close
from Hase[長谷] stn of Eno-den(nick).

Although the Odakyu tickets may work out slightly cheaper, I recommend the train journey via Ofuna as this allows you to stop off en route to visit the amazing Taya Caves.

These caves are little known to foreign tourists but are IMO, one of Japan's little hidden gems.

From roughly between the years 1200 to 1700, Shingon Buddhist monks excavated an underground maze of tunnels as a site for spiritual training. Damp, silent corridors lead to small, domed meditation chambers with walls and ceilings carved with fantastic creatures and Buddhist images, and on down to the spring room with a great turtle and birds carved on the walls. They're really something to behold and the stop off to see them shouldn't take much time out of your trip to Kamakura.

To get to the Daibutsu from Kamakura station:
It's located in the grounds of Kōtoku-in temple, which is most easily reached from the Daibutsu-mae bus stop from stops 1 through 6 at Kamakura Station. Alternatively, you could take the Daibutsu Hiking Course , which leads from the station past shrines and gardens for a peaceful 3 kilometres.

More info on the Taya Caves here :

Hope this helps!

TAYA CAVE MAP 2013/8/1 21:21
Here is a map. If you go out the south=west exit at OFUNA station, cross the river and turn right, it is about 1.75 miles.
