Kobe-Himeji without JR Trains

Hi,
I would like to know if Kobe-Himeji can be done in a day without using JR trains. I will be visiting Osaka and purchasing the Kansai Thru Pass, so I would like to do Himeji and Kobe in one day.
However, I am unsure if there are non-JR lines which cover both locations within the same line(so that I don't have to spend too long detouring) and also if these lines are included in the Kansai Thru Pass.
Can anyone help? Uji?
