possible to tour kyushu using trains and bus? 2013/8/15 21:49
Hi! Can someone help?
Apart from the castle, i see no interesting items in kumamoto? So i decided to go straight to Mt. Aso before having a night stay at ibusuki(for sand spa), i hope i m being REALISTIC....

are there any fruit farms in ibusuki for fruit plucking? or any fruit farms along the way (from ibusuki to takachiho gorge and kokonoe suspension bridge)?
Is it greedy to do kokonoe suspension bridge, and takachiho gorge all in an 8hr period?
Can i do canoeing or kayaking at the gorge?
from ibusuki, would it be advisable to go to takachiho gorge or suspension bridge before going to hiroshima?
that s the most complex part to me....

are the JR passes (same pricing for a 3 day kyushu pass in all shops) costs the same no matter where you get them? can the sanyo pass allows me to travel on all the routes that i want to cover? ie from fukuoka city to Mt Aso area and ibusuki , then to kokonoe suspension bridge and Takochiho gorge before landing at hiroshima and i need to go back to fukuoka airport after that...

If i m travelling from kyushu to hiroshima, can i stop at the shinkansen stop - miyajima station first before i proceed to JR hiroshima? is that a direct-through line?

Aso and Ibusuki are in very different regions of Kyushu. I don't know your overall plans, so it is difficult to judge whether it makes sense. But I strongly recommend that you look into transportation details in advance.

Without your own car, it is impossible. But if you have a car, it should be possible.

The price for the pass is the same. if you buy it inside Japan, it is the same anywhere. Sales outlets outside of Japan may charge different service fees and exchange rates, though.

can the sanyo pass allows me to travel on all the routes that i want to cover?

No, certainly not! Except for the shinkansen between Shimonoseki and Hakata, the Sanyo Pass is NOT valid on Kyushu.

the problem is i can never purchased it in japan

Pls note from the tourism board of japan :

"Where to buy the Japan Rail Pass?

A Japan Rail Pass cannot be purchased inside Japan

You must purchase an Exchange Order from an authorized sales office or agent before you come to Japan. "

-This is an order

I thought you were referring to the JR West Sanyo Are Pass.

The Sanyo-Shikoku-Kyushu passes, indeed cover JR trains in Kyushu. There is a Northern Kyushu version that covers just northern Kyushu, while the full version covers all of Kyushu. It is also explained here:
http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2361_07.html

The pass covers only JR trains. So, it does cover the train journey from Fukuoka to Aso and from Aso to Ibusuki, but access to Takachiho is not covered. Access to the Kokonoe suspension bridge is possible by JR (except for the last 10 kilometers or so), but it is very time consuming to get there by trains.

If you wanted to cover Fukuoka - Aso - Ibuskuki - Takachiho - Kokonoe - Hiroshima by public transportation, you would need to allocate a minimum of four days, not including time spent in Fukuoka and Hiroshima.

The Japan Rail Pass cannot be purchased inside Japan, but most other rail passes, including the Sanyo-Shikoku-Kyushu Pass can. Please read the details on the specific passes in detail.

It is explained here ("seat fee" refers to supplement fees such as limited express fee or express fee and eventual green car fee or berth fee):
http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2359_001.html

which amount do i pay actually?

The amount under "Total", which is the sum of the base fare and seat fee.

Nothing in Kumamoto but the castle? Far from it.

Suizenji is one of the most beautiful gardens in Japan. Honmyo-ji Temple is a mountainside temple that offers a great view over the city. Fujisaki Hachimangu Shrine is Kumamoto's most famous shrine and also has a wonderful character. Mt. Kinpo offers a spectacular view of the city lights at night. Shiki no Sato Park is outside the city but has a nice hot spring and animal park. Plus many more. Perhaps not the very best of all Japan, but some good sights worth seeing.

Hope the website accept email reservation?
i assumed it s a return trip for that price?

I m not sure do they pick from other areas like takachiho gorge etc?

Ken,

It seemed so that kumamoto has nothing much apart from the castle , but i need to go to Mt. Aso from kumamoto, do you have any brillant idea?

Re: possible to tour kyushu using trains and bus? 2013/8/25 07:16
If I am reading right, the quoted bus tour only does pick-up in either Beppu or Yufuin. Round-trip to and from Beppu is 6500 yen. If you start in Beppu and leave in Yufuin it is 5900 yen. If you start and finish in Yufuin it is 5000 yen. Reservation by phone can be made 1 month in advance but you can take the tour without reservation if vacancy is available on the day of travel.

Although not specified I'm sure you will have enough time to look around. The parking lot is right next to the bridge entrance and the walk from one end of the bridge to the other is less than 10 min (it is pretty scary though). Worth trying out is the tall "Kokonoe Yume Burger". We have enough burgers at home but this one is really special with some of the freshest vegetables we have had while taking a burger meal.

Hi!

When using hyperdia , i need to use trains/shinkansen to kagoshima

hyperdia - gave me options like 鹿児島中央
Kagoshima chuo
and kagoshima

Which should i picked? i m not sure, hence all of the time, i just generally picked the general term eg kagoshima or kumamoto, without the word "chuo" or eki (station) at the end of the word...

Am i right?
