Overnight Train Sunrise Seto Availability 2013/10/10 12:31
Nov 6,2013 Wed.
Overnight Train Tokyo to Takamatsu
Sunrise Seto

Any space available?
I can't book it until I reach Tokyo on Nov 5,2013.

What are my chances?

Wed/Thurs would be better chances in getting this overnight trip than Friday, right?

Can someone check for me?

I will have a backup plan.

Down route(for west/Seto,Izumo) Sunrise all seats cannot online vacancy.
(Up route[For east/Tokyo] only possible)

Every Fr night down/up both full booking earlier
than other weekday[Mo-Th] right.
Your chance under 10% A/B[sleeper/bed] and Nobi-nobi[No bed] maybe.

So think Night bus,Shinkansen or domestic flight next morning better.

If you can reach until 20:03/09 JR Tokyo/Shinagawa stn
then take last Hikari(Shinkansen name/with JR-Pass)
will be Kyoto 23:01 Shin-Osaka 23:16.

Dear LGC, I also plan to take this Sunrise Seto but from Takamatsu to Tokyo depart at 21.26 on Monday 28 October. Is it possible to check the availability? I will arrive in Japan on 23 October.

@Brad88

Are you talking about Nobi-nobi Seats (carpeted floor space) or sleeping berths?
Seat availability can be checked on the JR Cyber Station site, but it's in Japanese only, and gives details only for the Nobi-nobi Seats and not for sleeping berths.
http://www.jr.cyberstation.ne.jp/vacancy/Vacancy.html

Right now, there are already only a few (actual number unspecified) of vacancies left for 28th October, so your chances of being able to make a reservation when you arrive on the 23rd are extremely slim. I suggest you make other plans - fly, daytime trains, or long-distance bus.

Yes, Dreamliner, I mean Nobi-nobi seat as its free with JR Pass. I included Takamatsu in the plan just because I want to try this night train for the first time and it will also help save 1 night accommodation. Thank you for your help. Now I know I should have another plan.

Also "Izumo"(after Okayama)[nobi-nobi] few seats left now.

Check bellow site one week before(22.Oct) night.
http://www.web-sanin.jp/sight/time/vacant/jr.htm
東京[for Tokyo] サンライズ出雲[Sunrize-Izumo] ノビノビ座席[nobi-nobi]
[A][B] part are sleeper needs "sleeper fee".
(if JR-Pass sleeper fee plus LtdExp fee)

"Seto" no seat left numbers info site.
(Dreamliner answer right)

BTW,which airport and what time arr 23,Oct?
If arr KIX or NRT before 22:00 you can reach JR ticket office still open until 23:00.
Ask "Seto" first thwn "Izumo" from Okayama.

Re: Overnight Train Sunrise Seto Availability 2013/10/16 19:54
Thanks LGC. I arrived at Haneda around 10 pm. JR office there closes early so it will be until 24 morning that I can get my JR pass. From Hyperdia, some routes include Surise Izumo from Okayama. When I searched another option - replacing Takamatsu with Nagoya to Tokyo, it showed Sunrise Izumo/Seto from Osaka. My criteria is to arrive in Tokyo before 8 am 29 Oct morning. (my plane depart from Narita around 11 am).

clear all.

But 24 morning weekday "morning rush" alredy starts.
Dont ride mid cars most crowded.
(10-15 cars most in Tokyo commuter trains)

Take note that even if you can book it later, you better contingency plan as JR rail can cancel it last minute due to typhoon. My sunrise was cancelled a week ago and last night my Akebono from Tokyo was cancelled too.
