Visiting Mt. Aso 2013/10/19 15:05
I have a JR Pass and plan to visit Mt. Aso (the crater). I've read on this site and also other pages online. Is my understanding correct with this itinerary?

I'm coming from Kumamoto and this is for a Saturday.

From Hyperdia:

Kumamoto - Aso 8:35 - 9:42

From Kyushu Sangyo Bus:
http://www.kyusanko.co.jp/sankobus/rosen/bt62t234.php?Tei_Cd=000048&Po...

Aso - Aso Nishi 9:50
10:40

I'm using google translate to try to understand. I'm not even sure if my understanding of the Sangyo Bus is correct.

Would I have enough time to buy ticket to catch the 9:50 bus if I arrive at the station at 9:42? Would there be a long line for bus ticket?

Thanks

Hi

Bus
ASO station to ASO san nishi station.
Depature: 9:50, 10:50
The duration is not wrriten on the web-site.

I think that you have enough time to transfer to the bus, because usually bus schedule is adjusted with train schedule in rural of Japan.

You will be fine. The ticket-selling booth is just outside the JR Aso station on the right, but if there is a long line you can also pay the bus fare directly to the driver when you get off at the top. The ride takes about 35 mins and costs 540 jpy.

Hi all,

Need help as I do not understand Japanese.

I will be doing a day trip to Mt Aso from Kumamoto (in early Mar). I have tried using hyperdia to check the approximate travel duration from Kumamoto to Aso, but apparently the arrival Station of Aso is not available. The only stations were Aso (Kochi), Aso (Kumamoto), Aso (Mie), Aso Kumamoto Airport. Can someone please help me to identify the correct arrival station for my onward transfer to Kyushu Sangyo Bus?

In addition, how do i interpret the timing as stated in the website of Kyushu Sangyo Bus? What is the departure timing from Aso Station?:

Really appreciate assistance from the forum, please. Thank you!

sorry.. if the website says that the area is off limits due to vulcano activity it means that the bus is not operating?? sorry for the question but I do not understand if with the vulcano in activity is it possible to visit part of the area or nothing at all.. thank you for your feedback..

The bus is still operating, but depending on how much is closed off, the ropeway may not be operating and the uppermost part of the access road may be closed.

In recent months there has been an increase in activity, and the summit seems to be off-limits a lot of the time.
