I'm hoping to do a day trip from Kagoshima on this Saturday (16th Nov) and do a short hike. I was thinking of doing the Mount Takachiho-no-mine one. However I'm a bit stuck as all the bus timetables are in Japanese only. I was wondering what a good combination of buses (or taxi if there are no buses) to get to and from the Visitor Center from the nearest JR station would be?

From what I gather, its better if you can rent a car. If not, here is the option I found: Take a bus from Kagoshimachuoekimae Station to Kirishima Iwasaki hotel/area then take a taxi from there (about 3000yen 1 way) or you can ask around or the hotel if there is a bus to the visitor center. According to this http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e4629.html , there is only 2-3 buses. As for the bus schedule from Kagoshima http://www.iwasaki-corp.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/7a7be8f1e3fae08...鹿児島中央駅 （東Fのりば）= Kagoshimachuoekimae Station bus stop #7 霧島いわさきホテル = Kirishima Iwasaki If you are near Kagoshima airport then this is the name 鹿児島空港（Bのりば） bus stop #3
