local morning market in yokohama 2013/12/11 09:37
Hi,
I will be arriving Yokohama by cruise at Osanbashi and will be staying near Yamashita park for 3 days.
During my stay, I would like to go to the local market nearby if there is where they sell fruits and vegetables. Is there any nice sashimi nearby. Saw the weekend and whole sale market only open on certain days and they are not available during my stay.
Appreciate your reply

Thanks

Unlike Tsukiji, the wholesale market in Yokohama do not do tourist tours regularly, but I believe there are certain markets that are open to the public. There are also a few old-style stores and eat-ins in the area further from Osanbashi.

The nearest tourist information booth is in Ningyo No Ie (Yokohama Doll Museum) across the street from Yamashita Park. Update yourself there.

By the way, I assume you are seeking non-touristical atmosphere. The area you're staying in is the most touristical area in Yokohama. You might want to hop on the Keikyu train and get off at places like Gumyoji station where there is a big old shopping archade in a bit of an old-town atmosphere. A lot of trains run over-ground, so enjoy the scenery and hop off anywhere that interests you.
