I am visiting Koyoto next July and wish to visit Toru Shimomura's House of Indigo in Ohara and cannot find any way to make contact in English to establish contactwith the House of Indigo.

The page about his work on Kyoto Guide says "open by appointment only (call in advance; Japanese only)," so it is not open to the general public. I would suggest hiring a local guide-interpreter to call (and of course take the interpreter with you), and hope that he will be available that day. http://www.kyotoguide.com/ver2/thismonth/aizome.html
