Early flight into Haneda. Kyoto on JR pass?

Our flight into Tokyo lands at Haneda at a sprightly 5am on a Sunday in March, so too early to validate our japan rail passes. We want to get to Kyoto asap so as to get the whole day there. Any advice about the best way to do so?

will give you times from Hikari trains to Kyoto (you cannot use a Nozomi with the JR Pass)
Looks like you MAY get the 8.03 am Hikari 465 arriving 10.48am
or else the 8.33am Hikari 505 arriving 11.11am

for asap, take trains to Shin-Yokohama Station, where the exchange office opens early and you can board the Shinkansen there after you get your pass.

If flight on time or not Shin-Yokohama better.
If delay but back to Tokyo not recommend.
If over 2hrs go to Shinagawa closest.

BTW, Why not flight to KIX(Osaka)?

since your getting in that early... and you want to kill some time, some airport have showers. you can relax and shower/freshen up... i found that out on my last day on my out of Japan in Nartia airport.

How much do you think a taxi from Haneda international to Shin-Yokohama would be at about 6am on a Sunday morning.

Why don't you take a bus? There appears to be one at 6:25. These are airport buses, so they should be able to handle luggage.
