I made reservations for Citadines since the reviews were so good, but now am reading about problems with staying in Kabukicho. I'm not familiar with shinjuku - are we booked into a bad part of town? I wanted to be in shinjuku but not the red light district.
Son & I may be walking around the area, to the train stations or he may go out for a beer on his own. He won't want ma tagging along all the time and I don't want to borrow trouble with the part of town.

No. This hotel is (a) located about 500m to 1km apart from Kabukicho. (b) located about 1km roughly to the east of East Exit/Entrance of Shinjuku Station of JR-East; a taxi fare is expected to be about 800 yen per car. (c) located about 350m to the northeast of subway Shinjuku(-)gyoemmae Station; a taxi / a walking route may be about 650m, and a taxi fare is expected to be about 800 yen per car. - Citadines Shinjuku found on Google Map https://www.google.co.jp/maps/@35.6909574,139.7131429,20z?hl=enShinjuku Gyoen National Garden is on the other side of subway Shinjuku(-)gyoemmae Station. https://www.env.go.jp/garden/shinjukugyoen/english/2_guide/guide.htmlMost of Kabukicho is to the east of Seibu(-)shinjuku Station and to the southwest of subway Higashi(-)shinjuku Station. - Zooming out on the above map https://www.google.co.jp/maps/@35.6909574,139.7131429,15z?hl=en - Kabukicho found on Google Map (inside the dotted line) https://www.google.co.jp/maps/place/Kabukicho/@35.695438,139.7030895,1...!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x60188cd84e865c35:0x33418e00dfeefac?hl=en For your information : Five railroad operators have Shinjuku Stations, and around them are some stations with a name including "Shinjuku" such as Shinjuku(-)gyoemmae Station and Higashi(-)shinjuku Station. : Kabukicho is an official place name, but Akihabara is a nickname. (The area officially named Akihabara is a bit away from so-called Akihabara area.)
