Negotiating Narita

Hi I'm flying into Narita in a week. There are so many things I need to do in the airport..and I'm wondering when we pick up our luggage and go through immigration. I need to: go to JR and pick up passes rent a phone get money reserve the NEX meet family members arriving an hour later
Do I get my luggage before going to the money/JR/phone rental places? If those errands take a long time, I don't want to risk people assuming my luggage is abandoned!
Thanks!

Retrieve your luggage first. All of the other places are outside of the Immigration/Customs hall.

Great, thanks! I've flown through Narita in the past, but never as a destination. I remember it being somewhat confusing, especially with several passes through security. Lisa

It's easy to get through. It took me less than an hour to get through immigration, pick up luggage, exchange money, get a pocket wi-fi device, and get my JR Pass!
