Sleep in Matsuyama?

Hi,

My future wife and I will probably stop for one night in Matsuyama during our honeymoon in September. Would you have any particular hotel to advice there or in the region? She is an architect, and is therefore really interested in modern / sophisticated buildings.

Dogo Onsen has many onsen ryokan which can be recommended for a traditional onsen experience and a walk in yukata in the evening, but most of them are not architectonically interesting. The Yamamotoya Honten is unique for having a Noh Stage integrated into the modern building:

The Saka no Ue no Kumo Museum is a very interesting building.

Onsenato opens in Dogo hot spring from April 10.
There's that hotels in the planning horizon, you can stay in a room where artists were exhibited.
In particular, I recommend the Ishimoto fujio's room in Chaharu.
May I have seen the work of Ishimoto's.

Matsuyama is also interesting because of the transportation in and near the city. This is especially true at the intersection where the trams and railroad cross perpendicularly. You might never see so may overhead wires anywhere else.

It's also fun seeing the replica steam locomotive Botchan Ressha operating on the Iyo (Iyotetsu) tram (streetcar) tracks. Botchan is also the name and main character of a famous Natsume Sōseki novel from 1906, and later made into a movie.

You can take the Iyo railroad to the end of the northwest line (I forget the line's name, but your hotel can probably help, as can the information desk at Iyo's Matsuyama station). This ends at a ferry crossing to Hiroshima. But from there you can take a taxi, bus, or even walk, if not too much luggage, to the express ferry (and I forget if this is a hydrofoil or hovercraft) to Hiroshima. This can save you having to backtrack to Okayama, in case you want to continue traveling west, towards Kyushu.

If you are going to Matsuyama from Okayama, you get to cross the wonderful Seto Ohashi series of bridges, giving you one of the great views of Japan. Just about everyone on the train stops talking as you cross the bridges, because the view is so spectacular.

I'm really interested in the Onsen Art festival, it sounds amazing. The room in the Dogo Kan looks particularly nice. I'd like to confirm with the Dogo Kan that the festival will still be ongoing in september but I didn't find their contact information. Does anybody knows how I could contact them? Preferably via e-mail.

Dogo-kan is a room of Shuntaro Tanikawa's poet.
Once, I may have heard in a live poetry reading of Tanigawa's.

In the room reservation site of Japanese, I saw that is 42,120 yen or more per night is Rates room Shuntaro Tanikawa-designed, but I think in September, and it is more expensive because it is high season.
