It is probably too late for the regular cherry blossoms. Maybe the later blooming weeping cherry trees at places like Heian Shrine or Haradanien in Kyoto are still nice. Alternatively, there are places like Osaka Mint where you can see even later blooming varieties.

Or you can make side trips to places like Yoshino or Hikone where the main season may still be underway.

Re: Umeda to Mt. Yoshino 2014/4/5 18:40
how to go to Yoshino from Osaka (we are staying near Umeda Station)

In the following article you can check the route by Kintetsu from Osaka-Abenobashi to Yoshino and also transportation in Yoshino (explained under "Orientation").
http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e4151.html?aFROM=2157_4150

The roundtrip railroad cost from Umeda to Yoshino by subway and Kintetsu is 2500 yen.
Traveling with a Kansai Thru Pass, you need to pay 860 yen (= 430 yen per way) additionally for the Kintetsu section not covered by the pass (between Tsubosakayama and Yoshino).
These fees do not include Kintetsu Ltd. Express charges.
http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2357_005.html

The one-way fare of the ropeway connecting Senbonguchi and Yoshinoyama is 360 yen. (A roundtrip ticket is not available during the cherry blossom season.)
The one-way fare of the bus connecting Chikurin-in-mae and Oku-senbon-guchi is 400 yen.

[From Umeda Station to Yoshino Station by subway and Kintetsu]

Umeda Station of Osaka Municipal Subway is located
roughly to the south of Umeda Station of Hankyu / to the north of Umeda Station of Hanshin.
A one way requires about 2 hours.

Umeda (of subway)
{Midosuji Line: about 15 minutes, 280 yen}
Tennoji (of subway)
: Transfer: about 5 to 10 minutes (not including waiting time):
((B2F)) around the platformfs west end (closer to Umeda) {elevator/escalator upward}
Subway concourse ((B1F)) -- West Gate -- proceeding to the left a little {escalator upward}
Kintetsu concourse ((1F on the ground)) -- West Gate;
Osaka-Abenobashi (of Kintetsu)
{Kintetsu lines: about 90 minutes, 970 yen on an Express train}
Yoshino (of Kintetsu).
