Narita to Sendai for fireworks in August

Do you think it is possible to land at Narita Airport at 4:30pm and go straight to Sendai (through Tokyo of course)to see the fireworks on Aug 5th? Are there any hostels near the river that I might try to book now? Or is there a better location to see them?

I would like to be in Aomori for their festival the night of the 6th but would like to take advantage of the festival in Sendai.

It may be too late to fly into NRT at 16:30 for Sendai Tanabata Fire Festival.
Even if you clear the immigration procedure by 17:10, it may well be after 19:50 when you reach Sendai Station.

A one-way journey by rail lasts for about 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours 15 minutes. You can either take a Keisei Skyliner to (Keisei) Ueno Station, walk for a while to Ueno Station of JR-East and catch a Tohoku Shinkansen train, or take a (JR-East) Narita Express, make a transfer in Tokyo Station and catch a Tohoku Shinkansen train.

As for now, no direct flight from Narita Airport [NRT] is scheduled in Sendai Airport [SDJ] between 12:00 and 20:00.

If the weather is bad, Sendai Tanabata Fire Festival might be postponed to a day after Sendai Tanabata Festival, which is scheduled on August 6, 7 and 8.

Thank you for your prompt response. I agree I forgot about clearing customs. Also, I will have to stop to pick up my JR East pass. Do you know where the fireworks are displayed at along the river? I need to find a hotel as I will still want to see the decorations the next day. thanks!

thank you so much for the link to the train schedule and the picture of what I will miss with the fireworks. I will still plan on coming that night and see the sights for a few hours the next day before I head up to Aomori with my JR East Pass.
