Best train ticket pass to use in Japan 2014/4/15 16:18
Hi, My girlfriend and I will be traveling to Tokyo on May 25 to May 30. We will be traveling by train most of the time for all attractions in Tokyo. It may be short distances and long. We will also be planning to take a night Willer bus to Osaka on May 31 and will stay in Osaka from June 1-5. Also we will be sightseeing in Osaka using train. Then on June 6 - 8 we will be in Kyoto and we will be back in Tokyo on June 10-13. We plan to go see Mt. Fuji in Hakone. Could someone please advise us on these. Thank you.

Which airport(s) will you fly into and fly out from?
Have you decided places to visit?

A Japan Rail Pass will not pay off in your current itinerary. The only interregional trip by JR is that from Kyoto via Odawara to Tokyo, which can be done for about 15000 yen with regular JR tickets.

A regional JR pass cannot easily pay off only in trips inside Tokyo Metropolis / Osaka City / Kyoto City.

Depending on places to visit and traveling paces, a non-JR transportation pass may be a good choice.
: A Tokyo Subway Ticket, which will be available soon from April 22, is a pass for subway lines (in and around Tokyo) of Tokyo Metro subway and Toei subway.
: A Kansai Thru Pass is a transportation pass for many non-JR bus and railroad (including subway) lines in Kansai Region, which can be useful especially if you make side trips from Osaka or Kyoto to Nara and Kobe, for example. Unlike many other multiple-day passes, a 2-day / 3-day Kansai Thru Pass can be valid on non-consecutive days.
: In Kyoto, a one-day bus card can be useful for trips to major tourist spots around Kyoto Station.

Re: your itinerary 2014/4/19 13:17
You will allot many days for Kansai, so you can visit several more places in Kyoto City.

Advance application is required for Kyoto Imperial Palace / the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.

For the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace and Kokyo Gaien Natinal Garden, no Advance application is required.

I wonder which bus stop in Osaka City your highway bus will arrive to and which facility of Asahi Breweries you plan to visit.

Narita Airport and Hakone area are located apart from Tokyo.
