Suica cards and Pasmo cards 2014/4/19 00:26
Hi,

I would like to find out whether Suica cards and Pasmo cards can be used for the train and buses at Hakone, Mt.Fuji area and Kamakura.

Thanks.

I have both Suica and Pasmo cards, but recommend using the Suica card. The Odakyu line that goes to Hakone takes Suica, and the train to Kamakura. As well the local buses in Kamakura take Suica. As the Japan Tourist Board promotes this card, it is safe to say that it is acceptable in touristy areas.

In tourist destinations you wrote, Suica and Pasmo is possible to use the transportation most. However, it is not possible to use cable car, ropeway, cruise, the Fuji Kyuko line.
In order of their tourism, rather than using an IC card, I recommend that you use the Pass for travelers.

LoveJapan: As the Japan Tourist Board promotes this card, it is safe to say that it is acceptable in touristy areas.

Suica Cards and PASMO cards work the same for transportation on the Suica-PASMO network of most railroad (including subway) lines and many bus lines in and around Tokyo.
It is recommended that one traveler does not hold plural IC transportation cards together at once.

Presumably because Suica is the pioneer among IC transportation cards in Japan, it is often mentioned as a representative of them, but that does not mean Suica is more useful than them.

I would like to find out whether Suica cards and Pasmo cards can be used for the train and buses at Hakone, Mt.Fuji area and Kamakura.

Railroad lines of Enoshima Electric Railway [Enoden] (connecting Kamakura and Fujisawa) and of Hakone Tozan Railway (connecting Odawara and Gora) are on the Suica-PASMO network,
while Hakone Tozan Cable Car line (connecting Gora and Sounzan) is outside it.

Which area does "Mt. Fuji area" refer to?

Dear all,

Thanks for all your advise.

As I understand, Suica cards is available at JR stations and Pasmo cards available at non-JR stations. Do I need to purchase both cards in order to have access to subway, JR lines and Non-JR lines?

Omotenashi, I plan to go Kawaguchiko Lake, Fuji 5th Station and Fuji Shibazakura Festival area.

My plan is to go direct to Fuji Shibazakura Festival from Shinjuku (Fujikyu bus). From Kawaguchiko, get up to Fuji 5th station (Fuji Subaru Line).

Then from Kawaguchiko to Gotemba (Fujikyu bus) and Gotemba to Hakone-en (Odakyu Hakone Highway bus). Gora to Odawara (Hakone Tozan Railway) and Odawara to Kamakura (JR Tokaido Line and JR Yokosuka Line).

I am wondering whether Suica cards and Pasmo cards is enough for all these main transport? How about the getting around bus at Mt.Fuji and Hakone?

As informed by passby168, Suica and Pasmo do not include transportation like cable car, ropeway, cruise, etc.

Would it be difficulty to buy separate individual ticket on the spot due to overcrowded? Or I have to but the Hakone pass?

Re: Suica cards and Pasmo cards 2014/4/20 23:22
I correct my comments earlier. Suica and Pasmo is available in the sales office of Hakone Ropeway, but not in the vending machine. It is not available in the Hakone cable car.

There is no need to buy both of Pasmo and Suica to you. Both of them are valid bus, JR lines and Non-JR lines almost.

Subaru line has not only opened up to the front of Ichigome now. The reason is that the restoration work of landslides have been made. The construction is performed so as to end by the Golden Week, but closed to traffic might possibly prolonged.

You have the option to use the Fuji Hakone Pass, however, there are the following restrictions, travel your period is 3 days to Odawara from Shinjuku, and, arrival place first in Fuji area is Kawaguchiko Station.
http://www.odakyu.jp/english/deels/freepass/fujihakone/
In this case, in some sections, it is necessary to pay the bus fare separately. The bus to Shibazakura festival venue from Kawaguchiko Station is a round trip 1,900 yen entrance fee included. Charge of the bus to the 5th Station from Kawaguchiko Station is a 2,000 yen round trip.
This Pass is 7,400 yen. Normal fare of the following routes that I have calculated is 8,700 yen. From Shinjuku Station, Kawaguchiko Station, Gotemba Station, Hakoneen, Hakone sightseeing cruise, ropeway, cable car, Tozan, to Odawara Station. Because the Pass receive a discount in the tourist facilities such as Kachi Kachi Yama Ropeway, cost can be saved.

For other tickets, I tell are as follows.
Hakone Freepass:
It seems to be such can buy it in Gotemba Station. It may be possible to buy at Shinjuku Station of Odakyu line in advance.

Fujisan Fujigoko Passport:
The price of this Pass is 3,800 yen. If you buy it, you do not ride on the Shibazakura Liner with it perhaps, but it is possible to ride a bus to 5th Station bound. And it is available to Yamanakako Asahigaoka, it is an extra charge from there to Gotemba.

I want to add a comment. I think if you keep the charge amount in advance which is required before you get on the available bus Suica and Pasmo, since there is no need to buy a ticket, that there is no need to wait for the sales office.

Thanks Passby168 for your sharing. I think it worth to have the Fuji-Hakone pass and Fujisan Fujigoko passport. But do you know that whether Fujisan Fujigoko passport include the bus to Fuji Shibazakura Festival?
