What part of the forest can be visited from Nara Park / Kasuga shrine? It is supposed to be closed, but some areas are open??

The forested mountain Kasugayama is off-limit to tourists. You can only move around the Kasuga Shrine grounds. The unforested slopes of Wakakusayama are open in spring and autumn.

When I was there, there was a trail that went from the top of Wakakusayama through parts of the primeval forest and ended near Kasuga Shrine. Unless that path is now closed, you should at least be able to walk through it there if your goal is to visit the World Heritage Site or just enjoy the nature.
