How to find rural area English info? 2014/4/23 10:11
I'd really like to maybe rend a car, ride a train or bus to remote or rural area of Japan to travel.
But I can't find any English info?
Could you suggest some?
Thanks

That's a little vague. Do you have any particular areas or regions in mind?

Unfortunately there's just too much to list as the majority of the country is in fact quite rural. It would help to even know what you want to see, or what airport you're coming into. Outside of that just check around this site, there's ton's of English info about hundreds of rural sites.

If you are just looking to browse, aside from this site, here are some.

Wikivoyage has decent coverage of Japan, although it depends on the article:
https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Japan

VirtualTourist is a good site for finding attractions in less touristy areas:
http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Asia/Japan/TravelGuide-Japan.html

Those sites cover the entire country, so they include both urban and rural areas.

I looked through this sites. I think there are only major places and it's not very specific too.

We're asking you what areas you're planning to visit. If we know that, then maybe we can help you. No point to keep guessing if you're just going to be vague...

Re: How to find rural area English info? 2014/4/24 10:04
Really?? I think japan-guide.com is actually one of the most comprehensive travel resources available.
Just quickly for the purpose of giving specific examples, here's a bunch of places that are not major cities, all with access details, suggestions of where to go and general information about sites:
Aizu-wakamatsu http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e7700.html
Hachimantai http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3651.html
Iga Ueno http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e4350.html
Iya Valley http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e7825.html
Kakunodate http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3601.html
Kumano http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e4950.html
Manza Onsen http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e7495.html
Uchiko http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e5550.html
Yamadera http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e7940.html
Zao Onsen http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e7925.html
Yamanouchi http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e6025.html

As the '...' poster above me just said, we've tried to guide you but you're being very vague and saying that the mysterious thing you're after isn't available here, or anywhere apparently. WHERE are you going? WHEN are you going? WHAT are your interests?

If you actually clicked on the earlier link I provided, you can find in depth information and links regarding transportation, as well as accommodation, etiquette, food, budget, etc. Not to mention that extensive rural coverage is provided if you actively look for it.

Re: How to find rural area English info? 2014/4/24 12:22
You looked through the entirety Japan-Guide?
What about the sites I posted above? Did none of them have anyplace that you consider 'rural' enough??

What about these:

Hattoji Villa:
http://www.international-villa.or.jp/villa/hatto0904.htm

The villa is in Bizen, so here are other sites you could visit in addition to the villa:
http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/a40e1/22ab74/

I'll try to list some other random rural places, but other users are right that it's very difficult when 'rural' is the only criteria you give us.

Kizugawa:

Kami:

Mimasaka:

Uwajima:

Mashiko:

Yanai:

Yurihonjo:
https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Yurihonjo

Setouchi:

We are trying to suggest places that are rural AND have things to do/see. If you want to see or do something specific or you are not interested in places with any sites, please say that.

Re: How to find rural area English info? 2014/4/24 20:54
Lucky I found this posting... on my next trip to Japan I am also looking to travel to a rural country side area. I know there might not be any hotel, Inn or motels. But I am ready to sleep outside on the ground, park bench or under a tree just to see and experience how the country side is for 2 to 3 days and maybe find a bath house out there. I already know most likely there English will be very poor or no English at all but I will ready.

I remember when riding the shinkansen I ask myself, how do I get off here and make my way to this area.

Seiko,

I'm not sure if Japan is a sleep outside on a bench kind-of-place. Although it's a safe place to do that I guess. Perhaps start a new thread?

I'm guessing that many of the places mentioned above do have accomodation due to their popularity. If they don't, they would normally be visited on a day trip. Most likely you'd be able to reach a larger city within an hour or two.

Re: How to find rural area English info? 2014/4/26 08:06
I'm so sorry that I'm not specific at all.
Firstly, I just want to go to rural area of Japan becoz I'm quite sick of tall and dense building. I love nature. I would like to rent a car. I don't know which part I will go at the moment. Just want the general idea first. I went to Tokyo 3 times and 1 time to Kansai area with side trips around the areas.
Thanks, anyway. :) I love Japan

Actually, sometimes I just love to eat raw seafood, some want to just tracking some shopping so yes I can't be specific. Sorry about that.

If you want a lot of nature, seafood, and you have a car, you would probably love Kochi Prefecture.

Kochi Prefecture is mostly rural anyway, but you can easily visit places like the Shimanto River, small towns like Aki, and eat DELICIOUS seafood.

Katsuo no tataki is famous, but they've also got a lot of other great dishes, including whale dishes.

I think you may particularly enjoy Niyodogawa:

The above site has info, but this site has better pictures:
