Oirase hiking. Start a Ishigedo or Nenokuchi? 2014/4/23 12:09
I'm planning to travel to Oirase stream next month.

I was wondering, where should I start: Ishigedo or Nenokuchi?

I read it's a 9 KM path, so I would like to take the easiest path.

Thanks in advance!

It's the same easy trail either direction, so I would choose based on where you stay and if/when you want to ride the ferry.

From Ishigedo it's an uphill trail where you can view the waterfalls best. If you take lots of photos, the time will add up quickly. How long are you going to be there? Give yourself at least 4 hours for a nice stroll. It's beautiful there!

That's a good point about the waterfalls. The trail is uphill in the direction of Lake Towada, but the incline is so small that its not really noticeable. But going in that direction means that you'll face most of the waterfalls and rapids on the stream, making them easier to notice and enjoy as you walk.
