Hokuriku JR Pass start from Osaka 2014/5/5 11:20
Hello,
I have plan to travel to Toyama start from Osaka and return to Kyoto by riding the Limited Express Thunderbird and use Hokuriku JR Pass.
But the pass doesn't valid from both Osaka and Kyoto, the nearest station which the pass can be use is Tsuruga / Maibara station.
How to ride the Thunderbird through Toyama without transfer at Tsuruga or Maibara by using Hokuriku JR Pass?

Thank you in advance,

Pim

If you buy a voucher of the Pass at the travel agency that is specified in Southeast Asia South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, you can receive it in Osaka Station, Shin-Osaka Station, and Kyoto Station.
Unfortunately, you can not be purchased without a voucher at the station of them.
I think in this case, you need to buy a separate ticket to Tsuruga from Osaka, and need not be stopover in Tsuruga.

Re: JR-West passes, etc. 2014/5/5 12:49
A Kansai WIDE Area Pass (7200 yen per adult) and a Hokuriku Area Pass (4500 yen per adult, May 2014 - February 2015), which are both issued by JR-West, can be used together at once.
A foreign traveler who is eligible for these two JR-West passes can travel between Osaka / Shin-Osaka / Kyoto and Toyama in a non-reservation car of a Ltd. Express Thunderbird without paying additional fees.

A Kansai WIDE Area Pass can be directly purchased at a JR-West ticket office in a major station such as Kansai-airport, Tennoji, Osaka, Shin-Osaka and Kyoto.

Regarding a Hokuriku Area Pass, if you cannot purchase an exchange voucher for it outside Japan, you should purchase it in Hokuriku sub-region, getting off your train.
(Now at present, a Hokuriku Area Pass cannot be directly purchased outside Hokuriku.)

If you fly into Kansai Airport [KIX], get to Osaka City and make this trip,
these two JR-West passes (11700 yen per adult) can pay off in this Toyama trip only.
In a case where you head to Toyama later and cannot use a Kansai WIDE Area Pass for your trip from KIX to Osaka City, alternatively you can choose an ICOCA & Haruka package, which includes a ticket (1030 yen per adult) for this trip from KIX.

Note
: A Ltd. Express Haruka makes a stop at Shin-Osaka but not at Osaka.
: A Kansai WIDE Area Pass / a Hokuriku Area Pass / a ticket in an ICOCA & Haruka package is designed for rides without seat reservation. When you utilize a seat of a Haruka / a Thunderbird which requires reservation, it does not cover the Ltd. Express charge but can only cover the basic fare.
