Do japanese love hotels check your ID or your age before you enter? Are love hotels good? Any recommendations?

I've never been checked, but it could happen I guess. You must be 18 or over to use one. I personally like then for when I go on road trips and am driving in the evenings because they are a good deal for the money, and have nicer things like baths and beds than the plain and utilitarian business hotels.

However please note that many hotels have very late check-in times for stays (9pm or later usually, although in off season you can find earlier), and many will not allow you to leave once you're in. They are only good as 1 night stays because you cannot leave your luggage there, and must check out in the morning (between 10-12 depending on season) and check in again in the evening if you want to stay again. Also some are very strict as to who stays... single travelers, groups, or a non-traditional "couple" may be asked to leave. Finally, they are on a "first come first serve" basis, so if it is a crowded season, it may be difficult to find a room for a decent price.

As for "good" ones, there aren't usually "chain" type ones in the sense that you can find Toyoko Inns everywhere. If you say where you are going, there may be some in the area people can recommend.

Wait, why are people always asking about Japan Love Hotel? What so special about them? I thought they were use for? I gotta read about them.

Scarreddragon caught my attention when he said :” I personally like then for when I go on road trips and am driving in the evenings because they are a good deal for the money, and have nicer things like baths and beds than the plain and utilitarian business hotels.” If the deals are that good I might have to stay in a Love Hotel. But because of the late late late hours check in at 9. that wont work for me.

@Mojo, your comment made me laughing so hard.

Besides their intended purpose, Love Hotels make for another interesting accommodation option for travellers. While not necessarily a cheap option, the rooms tend to be nicer than average for their pricepoint and may be a good value for the money.

@ yllwsmrf, thank you, next time I travel to Japan I will look into staying in one but most likely not stay in them.

OMG!!!! I just google Japan Love Hote and seen what its like inside... you people are sick, sick I tell ya....lol joking

Those are what I say in Osaka or Tokyo… lol, here a true store… it was late at night and I was doing some night sightseeing Tokyo or was it Osaka, Yes you can do night time sightseeing.
It was like 12.30 or 1am as I was walking the street, I seen this stuff before but never knew what it was until now. I can see inside ok not great but ok, because of the night outside light refracting off the window. I look inside the lobby and see those room and you have to pick one with the button. Curios as I was, I put both my hands up to the glass to get a better look inside because again the night outside light refracting from the window and there was this guy and the girl.

I did not notice them because I was too focus on the room selection thing, they were looking at me as I was looking at the button selection trying to get a better look. Finally I move my eyes to look around and saw them, I look at them, they look at me, I looked at them, and they looked at me and I was like oops this don’t look good. it was a awkward situation and I walk away with by head down fast…

sorry for the long story, but Like they say… curiosity killed the cat
But others would say curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought it back

sorry for the long story, but Like they say… curiosity killed the cat

But the cat has 9(kyuu)lives(mythical)
Suprisingly, theJapanese considers nine to be unlucky because in Japanese the word for nine sounds similar to the word for "pain" or "distress"

Ahhh good experience.... I hope you know what love hotel is for and it not a place for solo or group travelers to sleep. I did went to love hotel with my Japanese girlfriend because I wanted to see what it like and my country does not have love hotel. There are so many love hotel in Shinbuya and Shinjuku, so it hard to recommend. No they do not ask for ID and it very privacy. You pick the room from picture board and press the button that is available then go to staff counter with black tint screen to pay it. The staff will ask if you will stay Rest(2 - 3 hours) or Overnight and then will give you a key.
Have fun and wear protection!

There are some love hotels that do double duty as regular hotels and allow for extended stays. You can even make reservations for them using the normal online hotel booking sites. They even allow families! lol.. but it can be a big surprise when you check in and the kinds find the dildo vending machines, oh, and just about the only thing on TV is porn.. :-P

Eg. The nicest hotel in Tsu, Mie is Hotel Fine.. Reasonable rates, nice big room… LOVE HOTEL.. And you can book it for a week online! http://www.expedia.com/Tsu-Hotels-Fine-Tsu.h5789674.Hotel-Information?...
