Kyoto botanical garden after dark

I and a friend (two girls) will be in kyoto July 18-20. We wanted to check out the Kyoto botanical garden. Our main objective is to check out trees that are decorated with lights (we saw pictures on google). I understand last entry into park is 4.
My question is will they let us hang around until it gets dark to check out these trees? Also, please let me know if Im wrong about the trees being lit.

That was probably the Cherry Blossom light up which is a special event held in early April, or it could have been the Christmas illumination. I don't see any similar events being held in July, and anyway it will still be light out way past the park's closing time.
