Bus from Tokyo to Nachi/Shingu/Shirahama 2014/6/28 17:33
Hi there,

I plan to go to Nachi no hi matsuuri in Nachi-san on 14th july.

As trying to save up on accommodation, I'm planning to take a night bus from Tokyo on 13th night and arrive in the next morning.
Does anyone knows any buses that provide this route?

Is this possible with the timeline to watch the festival starting in morning ( I think it starts at 10am)

Arigatou!

You can use the bus Katuura Onsen bound from Ikebukuro for your trip. It departs from Ikebukuro Sta. East Exit at 21:40, then it will arrive in Katuura Onsen at 8:10. It is about 5 minutes walk to Kii-katuura Sta. from Katuura Onsen Bus Stop. One-way fare of up to Katsuura-onsen from Ikebukuro is 10,700 yen.

The ticket for the highway bus can be purchased at Seibu Kosoku Bus Ikebukuro Ticket Center and part of Seibu Bus office.

The bus of Nachi-san bound to departure at 8:25 and 8:55 from Kii-katuura Station. Travel time which is about 25 minutes. You should be able to get there before 10 am.

Here is bus timetables in English for the Kumano region. The Kii-Katsuura to Nachi Taisha timetable is number 8.

Snice you mentioned Shingu and Shirahama, I thought you might want a more complete listing of the bus timetables.

I am also going to Kii-Kastuura and Shirahama. I will be in Kii-Katsuura on the 13th and 14th, and in Shirahama on the 15th. I am looking at getting a Kotzu Bus three day pass, because I want to go to Hongu Taisha on the 13th, and Nachi Taisha on the 14th.

I did not know about the overnight bus from Ikebukuro, which would have been nice to know about. I will have a JR Pass to get from Osaka to Kii-Katsurra on the 13th, and to move from Kii-Katsuura to Shirahama. I may have to bookmark this thread for a future trip where I use the bus.

wow the price is really something!
thank you for the answer! Really appreciate it.

Another ques, will the ticket run out fast (because of the festival)? Do I need to ask a friend in Japan to purchase it?

As you think, there is a high possibility that the ticket is sold out. As far as I found out on the web site, the vacancy was only 9. I think the other passengers if the cancellation, the number will change, but seems to be better to be reserved as soon as possible.
Then, it is recommended that you search how to write your name by Katakana for the reservation, to tell your friend it. Perhaps the bus company will register your name by Katakana instead of alphabet unlike airlines. This is due to the Japanese language habits, you may feel uncomfortable, but that some people can not fully understand the alphabet in the Japanese is one of the reasons, to use Katakana instead of the alphabet.
