Hirafu or Niseko in August

We're in Hokkaido for 2 weeks in August for the Ironman competition! I've got everything booked except for one night, and was wondering what Niseko and Hirafu areas were like in the summer? Is it a ghost town without the ski-ing?

Summer is good and winter is good. It's spring and fall when there's not much going on. If you like outdoor activities, there's a lot going on in the area. If you want to swim and jump down a river through canyons, that's definitely a summer activity. Take a look at: http://nisekotourism.com/directory/summer/nature for some other ideas.
