Bus Transportation in Tokyo 2014/7/17 18:33
I am trying to learn more about using the buses instead of the trains here in Tokyo to get to various stops on the Yamanote from the Ochiai station area on the Tozai line (T2) ... I have gathered that the bus company that serves central Tokyo is TOEI but how do I find out about the routes ?! They only seem to mention how to get to tourist spots .. Any English websites ?!

Foreign visitors (as opposed to foreign residents) almost never take city buses in Tokyo. This doesn't mean you can't, but you might not find them to be very tourist-friendly. (I don't mean they will be hostile, just that you can't expect a lot of English support.)

Is there some reason you prefer to take Toei buses instead of the usual trains? Just curious. I took a city bus once because I thought it would allow me to see more of the city (the subways being entirely underground), but it was slow and the ride was not very interesting after all.

I'll bet you won't find a Japanese version in Paris or New York or any other large city.

Uma, it would just be nice to change my routine a little that's all :)

Dick H, I'm sorry but I don't understand what you mean. English is the global language so it is such a pity there is no English version.

Thank you to all of you for your input. I got my answer so I will no longer be following this thread. I can now ask my friend who speaks Japanese to help me because luckily we both speak the global language as a second language and we were able to communicate. Such a blessing.

Well for anyone else who might be reading this, here's an English-language site that helps you travel by bus in Tokyo:
https://maps.google.com/

Just plug in your starting and ending points, then find the button that says "show options," press that, choose "buses," and hit the button for "Get Directions."

That link brings up a map of my city in the U.S.A.

Time to lay off guys. The OP wasn't expecting and English version like it's some sort of human right, and there's nothing wrong with lamenting that there isn't an English version of the bus network out there that can make the buses more accessible to her.

English versions are always appreciated when available. And like all things, most places would gladly make them if they had unlimited resources to do so, but that obviously will never be the case.
