Any suggested itinerary from 1feb2015 to 16feb? We are wondering if we could cover these places by train or should we take plane to hokkaido. Would like to catch Sapporo snow festival and otaru lantern festival too. Thanks in advance!

If you will have a JR Pass, taking the train would be acceptable, but be careful that the JR Pass does not cover seats in sleeping cars in night trains, you will have to take a regular seat or pay extra. For example you can leave Kyoto at 3:30pm and arrive in Sapporo at 6am the next day, so not lose to much sightseeing time and even save the cost of one hotel night.
