Higashiyama District/shop hours for New Year

I'll be traveling around Kyoto from 12/27 to around 1/2 this winter and I was wondering: would I have trouble encountering multiple shop closings since it's the prime time for New Year's celebrations?
I know that most temples and shrines will remain open but am having trouble finding information about restaurants and local shop hours, especially for the Higashiyama District.
If anyone has any information, please let me know.

Many of them will be open but some will probably be closed. For the small, local shops the owner can open/close as they wish. The department stores should be open.
