Drift Racing Events? 2014/7/23 10:37
My son is a huge fan of drift racing and we would love to see an event in Japan when we visit from July 24th - August 10th. I looked on the http://www.d1gp.co.jp/ website and there is an event during the time but it's way down near Nagasaki and we will be in Tokyo at the time.

I was hoping somebody knows of a smaller, local event happening during those dates.

Thanks!

You may be able to visit the racetrack in Saitama (Honjo Circuit), which has drifting events and specific practice times for drifters, although you'd probably need a rental car to get out there, and I don't think they have any schedule online for it. But I know a few drifters, and they don't like spectators. Also a lot of the more "natural" spots (like the ones in Gunma) you can't really watch there safely.

You may be lucky - there's a drift event this weekend (July 26-27) at Tsukuba race track:
http://www.jasc.or.jp/

When you click on the event name on the "1000" circuit for both days, it leads to this page:
http://www.drift-mc.com/

More info is then here:
http://www.drift-mc.com/?p=3153

Admission fee Saturday: 1000 JPY
Admission fee Sunday: 2500 JPY

I've never been to Tsukuba and I'm actually considering going there this weekend, too (that's how I know about it in the first place). According to google, the closest train station to the track is "Sodo Station". There may be a shuttle bus on weekends but I would rather expect to take a taxi (it's amazing how few people travel to race tracks by public transport - my estimate is that from about 30k spectators watching each Super GT race, only about 200-300 come by bus so for minor circuit such as Sugo, I'd expect no shuttle at all - and if there's one, even better).
