Tennozu Isle Rinkai Line and Monorail Station 2014/7/26 22:29
Hello,

I am considering to stay at Toyoko Inn Tokyo Shinagawa-eki Konan-guchi Tennozu for a week. There will be daily train trips to places in Tokyo, Yokohama, Kamakura areas with children on strollers. I will be travelling with luggage on arrival (from Nagoya-Shinagawa using shinkansen and departure to Haneda/Narita).

From the station map of Tennozu Isle
Rinkai line: http://www.twr.co.jp/route/tennouzu/index.html#ss

Monorail: http://www.tokyo-monorail.co.jp/english/guidance/tennouzuairu/index.ht...

Both Tennozu Isle stations appear to have elevator/lift to street level. Can someone please confirm.

Thanks.

Hi dsim!

I work near Tennozu.
Both Rinkai line and Monorail have elevators
for sure. Ask the specific place at the hotel front desk.

Enjoy your stay in Japan.

There will be daily train trips to places in Tokyo, Yokohama, Kamakura areas with children on strollers.

It depends on your destinations, but probably you will not have to use Tokyo Monorail before heading to Haneda Airport (when you choose this airport), unless the operation of TWR Rinkai Line happens to be suspended or delayed much.

Which places in Tokyo, Yokohama and Kamakura do you have in mind?

I will be travelling with luggage on arrival (from Nagoya-Shinagawa using Shinkansen and departure to Haneda/Narita).

In Shinagawa, you can make a transfer, using elevators, from Tokaido Shinkansen to Yamanote Linefs outer loop (Track 2) via Shinkansen South Transfer Gate.
http://english.jr-central.co.jp/info/station/_img/shinagawa_L.jpg?unti...
Then you can get off at the next Osaki Station, where you can make a transfer inside gates, using elevators, to TWR Rinkai Line. Trains bound for Shin-kiba departing at Track 5, 6 or 7 run on Rinkai Line. A ride to Tennozu Isle Station lasts for several minutes.

After passing through the TWR gate in Tennozu Isle Station, you can use a nearby elevator, via Exit B on the 1st floor (= ground floor), to reach a skywalk on the 2nd floor.
(A point just near this exit can be located with the coordinates "35.620854, 139.750637" on Google Map.)
Then you can walk a little, turn right at the corner and proceed to Toyoko Inn Tokyo Shinagawa-eki Konan-guchi Tennozu, following Steps 5 to 11 explained in this webpage.
http://www.toyoko-inn.com/e_hotel/00244/rinkai-line_e/rinkailine.html

If you mind carrying baby strollers on the two escalators, alternatively you can use the elevator to Exit B and walk on the ground for about 350 meters to the hotel.
(You should refrain from using baby strollers on escalators for safety.)
Getting off the elevator at Exit B, you can turn left, walk for about 120 meters to the next crossroad, cross the road, turn left, walk for two blocks, turn right, walk for about 60 meters more and find the hotel on your left.

The Toyoko Inn location in Oimachi looks like a better choice. You can walk from the station as opposed to waiting for a shuttle.

Others like the Shinagawa Toyoko Inn, across the street from the station.

Re: your journey 2014/7/29 23:00
Let me put a link with no parameter to the above map of Shinagawa Station offered by JR-Central.
http://english.jr-central.co.jp/info/station/_img/shinagawa_L.jpg
(In Shinagawa, JR-Central has Shinkansen tracks and JR-East has non-Shinkansen tracks.)

I would like to find other JR station maps.

JR-East is offering maps of some major stations.
http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/stations/index.html

where can i find the station map for Keikyu Shinagawa

One map is available, though it is in Japanese.
http://www.keikyu-ensen.com/images/station_map_2.jpg

Note
: These maps take directions not in the same way. The north end may be the top end in one, or the left end in another.

[Shinjuku area]

You can travel from Tennozu Isle Station (of TWR) to Shinjuku Station (of JR-East) taking one train.
Osaki-bound trains from Tennozu Isle Station of TWR run on TWR Rinkai Line + JR Saikyo Line (+ JR Kawagoe Line).

Note
: An area which can be called Shinjuku is vast, stretching over the boundary between Shinjuku and Shibuya as municipalities.
: Shinjuku Station of JR-East is not always the best station for your destination in Shinjuku area.
: The Shinjuku railroad terminal is huge and complicated, composed of Shinjuku Stations of five railroad operators.
- JR-East: Shinjuku Station
http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/stations/e866.html

[Tokyo Disney Resort]

To visit Tokyo Disney Resort, you can take a train on TWR Rinkai Line to Shin-kiba, make a simple transfer to JR and take a train on JR Keiyo Line from Shin-Kiba (Track 1) to Maihama for 10 minutes or less.
(If you travel first to Tokyo Station as is often guided, you will have to make a long, long transfer to JR Keiyo Line.)

By the way, have you searched TDR for your accommodation? A guest of any of the three Disney Hotels + the six Tokyo Disney Resort Official Hotels can purchase a Tokyo Disney Park ticket in the hotel, and can be guaranteed admission to the Disney Park on the specified day if entry is restricted due to crowdedness outside the Park.
http://www.tokyodisneyresort.jp/en/about/rh/index.html

[Odaiba area]

Tokyo Big Sight is offering a nice Suburb Map for Odaiba visitors.
http://www.bigsight.jp/english/download/public/access_map_e_color.pdf

You seem to have noticed that TWR Rinkai Line goes through Odaiba area.
Also Yurikamome offers Odaiba accesses.
While TWR Rinkai Line lies under the ground in Odaiba area, Yurikamome Line lies above the ground.
Yurikamome Line goes via Rainbow Bridge, and it has a loop near the bridge, which can bring passengers a nice view of the bridge while it is illuminated in the evening.

[Asakusa area]

To visit Asakusa area avoiding staircases, you can take a through train from Shinagawa Station (of Keikyu) to Asakusa Station (of Toei subway) and get out to the ground via Exit A2b.
(Keikyu trains from Shinagawa Station run into plural directions. Please feel free to ask a Keikyu station attendant which trains you should take.)

Asakusa Stations of Toei subway and Tokyo Metro sound not yet enough friendly to small kids.
http://www.tokyometro.jp/station/asakusa/yardmap/images/yardmap.gif
: Passengers have to use staircases between the Toei subway platform and Exit A4, which is close to Sensoji Temple. The only Toei subway exit equipped with an elevator is Exit A2b, and it is around the further end.
: Transfers between Toei subway and Tokyo Metro include using a staircase.
: Accesses to/from the Tokyo Metro platform for Track 2 include using a staircase.

[Kamakura]

You can take a train bound for Zushi or Kurihama on JR Yokosuka Line from Shinagawa to Kamakura, make a simple transfer to Enoden [Enoshima Electric Railway] and take a train to Hase.
http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/stations/e476.html
http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3115.html

[Yokohama]

You can take a train on JR Keihin-Tohoku Line from Shinagawa to Sakuragicho.
From Bus Stop No. 4 of the bus terminal in front of Sakuragicho Station, you can take an Akai Kutsu Bus on any of the two lines, which cover accesses to major tourist spots in Yokohama City. (IC transportation cards such as Suica are not accepted on these bus lines.)
http://www.yokohama-bus.jp/akaikutsu/en/index.html

Hakkeijima area is located apart from these tourist spots. If you visit also Yokohama Hakkeijima Seaparadise, I recommend you would allot another day for it.

Re: Tennozu Isle Rinkai Line and Monorail Station 2014/7/30 16:57
i will depart from narita airport but will stay a night at a narita garden hotel, before flight on next day (morning) using hotel shuttle bus to narita airport.

Is narita express from jr shinagawa to narita t1/t2 (and take hotel bus to hotel from t1/t2) to the hotel the only option?

Any other options to narita garden hotel? The hotel's shuttle bus also pick up passengers from keisei narita station.

Re: Narita Airport access 2014/7/30 20:16
Is Narita Express from Jr Shinagawa to Narita t1/t2 (and take hotel bus to hotel from t1/t2) to the hotel the only option?

Well, if you give the top priority to convenience, that sounds to be the best option. Seats of any JR Narita Express train require reservation.

If you hope to save the cost, alternatively you can take a train bound for Narita Airport (Terminal 1) from Shinagawa Station of Keikyu on Keikyu lines + Toei subway Asakusa Line + Keisei lines, for roughly about 1 and a half hour. You cannot reserve seats of the train.
I recommend you would leave Shinagawa by 16:00 if you take this option in a weekday, avoiding evening rush.

Thanks for the great information. Regarding Asakusa station, there is an elevator at Exit1.

http://www.tokyometro.jp/station/asakusa/yardmap/images/yardmap.gif

Which platform (1 or 2) on the Ginza line does the train from Kanda - Asakusa arrive?
by dsim rate this post as useful

Re: your journey 2014/7/30 23:04
Tokyo Metro Ginza Line has its east terminus in Asakusa Station. Trains use any of the two tracks.

I suppose a Tokyo Metro station attendant on a Ginza Line platform can tell you which trains (among the several earliest trains) arrive to Track 1 in Asakusa Station.
Regarding departures, you can find Ginza Line trains departing from Track 1 of Asakusa Station in a timbale; but I suppose you not need to do so because they depart frequently.

To make a transfer to Ginza Line, Ginza Station may be the best option for you.
(In Kanda, the transfer between JR and Tokyo Metro includes at least two staircases. In Shimbashi, the transfer between JR and Tokyo Metro includes one staircase.)
The route shown below sounds roundabout, but logically you make only two simple transfers, using five elevators.

Re: Tennozu Isle Rinkai Line and Monorail Station 2014/7/31 12:48
I personally like Toyoko Inn Tennozu very much as i've young kids and i prefer them sharing same room with me. The hotel is quite a walk from the monorail station especially if u've heavy luggages! I remember dragging my heavy luggage down the stairs (no elevator) n the lift is meant for wheel chairs n strollers. However, I could be wrong as we're too tired to walk around the station after a long flight.

The hotel has a mini bus to transfer those who wants to go shinagawa station. As this is a busy hotel, make sure u queue early as the bus can be quite packed during peak hours.

There's a convenience store right outside the hotel and some restaurants just across the streets. Note: the restaurants close rather early.

To get to Narita airport instead of taking JR we took the airport bus from Haneda airport as we find this way is much convenient, cheaper and buses have bigger space to keep our luggages
