I can't understand him 2014/8/2 23:45
Hello everyone!
I've been communicating with a japanese for almost a year now. He is so nice to me and I can't stop myself from falling for him. He calls me almost everyday, and we talk about everything. , he compliments me, many times already., but never said he likes me. .
Few months ago, he finally said "I admire you". .. But a month after that, he send me messages very very seldom, as in once in 2 or 4 weeks., (I feel so sad about it. ) but the messages from him isn't cold. Well, it seems like he missed me so much and keep saying sorry for his delayed messages.
What do you think guys? Is he still interested with me, or do I have a chance? Please leave a comment. Thanks a lot!

We're not mind-readers here, nor do we know anything about this guy.
The obvious thing to do is just ask him.

The best thing to do is to ask him if he is interested in you.

Re: I can't understand him 2014/8/3 05:19
Actually, that is not something you can just ask. You are not in a relationship, and he didn't really confess. You just assumed he likes you, so asking about it would be very awkward.

One can "admire" many people without having romantic feelings for them. Also, he could have complimented you as a friend. Basically, even if someone flirts with you, it doesn't necessarily mean they have a crush on. My friends and I ( no matter our gender, age, or nationality ) have been madly flirting with each other on a daily basis for years, and there is nothing between us.

IMO your case has nothing to do with Japanese and non-Japanese. A person showed you interest, and is still showing interest but is a bit distant while apologizing for it. Maybe he is busy. He could also be slowly losing interest/getting more interested in someone else. The fact is no one can really tell.

Give it time and, according to how your conversations go, decide for yourself.

Hi Minerva, thanks a lot! I'm sorry if I asked such stupid question.. This is the first time that someone gave me special attention and said those words to me., and since.. I think I really like him, I might be giving different meanings on everything he said,. So I think you are might, it might be just friendly gestures. :(

Re: I can't understand him 2014/8/3 18:20
Your question wasn't stupid - You are just confused at the moment. When in love, no one acts wise ( myself included ). Don't worry about it.
I'm sorry if my comment depressed you. I could be wrong, he might really like you the way you wish he would. But its better not to expect much and be pleasantly surprised, than let your emotions soar and end up with a broken heart. I just wanted to protect you from getting really hurt.
I am sure you are deserving of every compliment you received, and I hope you find your happiness ( be it with this guy or another ) soon.
Don't forget to smile!

Dear Minerva,

You don't have to be sorry, it's the reality anyway. , you are right, people could simply say "I admire you" to anyone. I just realised that I was even saying "I admire you" to my girl friends! Gosh! I'm so embarrassed! Hahaha,
Thank you so much for your advice! You really made me feel happy!

Re: I can't understand him 2014/8/5 23:04
iku is a common Japanese name. not related to porn.
typical kanji names are ˆè, Šô, or Šô‹v.

Re: I can't understand him 2014/8/5 23:20
As a Finnish name, it links to the name of their pagan god of beauty and fertility.
Although unpopular, Iku as a Japanese girl's name can mean "nourishing" ... it is also the stage name of a female Jpop singer [ http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iku_(singer) ].
So, if you are not dirty minded or a native speaker who is familiar with the language, you wouldn't know the rest.
As a word, it apparently means "to go" or "to come" and is a pun for having an orgasm.
I.K.U was the name of a J-porn [ http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/I.K.U. ]

Since you are not Japanese, and it could very well be a nice name in another language, you have nothing to apologize for.
The person who brought it up was a troll who went around leaving stupid comments here and there.
Don't worry!

Re: I can't understand him 2014/8/11 05:31
@ Iku
I was worried about you, girl! You seemed really bothered by those mean comments. Glad you are OK.

Did he say that out of the blue, or it was an answer to something you said/asked?
Either way, it is a very nice thing to say, and could very well be a subtle confession. The thing is, his English doesn't seem to be as good as yours. So, some emotions may get lost or mixed up in translation. How your conversation led to him saying that is also important. Still, I personally think his statement passed the line of "just friends" clearly enough.

Now, is he waiting for an answer? Make sure to reply warmly and sweetly! If he did mean that as a confession, your reply can easily pour ice water on his head. So, be careful with that. I don't suggest going overboard with emotions just yet, though. Saying something like " Thank you very much! I feel the same way about you. ♡ " should be fine.

Good luck and keep me updated! I hope it goes well!

@minerva

Thanks for worrying, but I'm definitely ok.. You made me feel glad. ^_^

Well ... We were talking about something else. (Funny talks) I don't know what came to his mind why he told me those phrases. Suddenly, he became serious.. He called my name twice, maybe he is trying to make sure that I'm listening to him. Then he said those words. At the back of my mind, I was like.. Yes! He will say it! He will say it! He will finally say that he likes me! But unfortunately.. He didn't. Haha..

I know this is embarrassing, but....
After hearing those words from him.. I immediately said..
" really? I also feel the same!" We both laugh, then he said " thank you". I think I was too obvious that time.. Hahaha

Re: I can't understand him 2014/8/11 16:58
IKU, grow some balls and tell him how you feel, we can't analyze every single word he is telling you! No one here knows how he feels about you so why don't you grow up and tell him strIght about your feelings, why are you waiting for him say something first? Ah, this sounds very high school!

P.S I'm pretty sure you are going to delete this post but don't always expect people to tell you what you want to hear!

Re: I can't understand him 2014/8/11 17:26
@Iku
That was definitely a confession then!!! I am grinning like moron from happiness over here. haha
Congratulations!
Actually, I am really glad you were too obvious. Now he knows for sure you like him too and won't be nervous for nothing. I was being cautious because I didn't know the details. Also, don't be disappointed. Saying " I like you " isn't that common. What he already said covers that and more anyways.
Ask him ( cutely, sweetly, and oh so gently ) if you are his GF now, or if you can call yourself his GF. While we are at it, lets make it official! hehe
I can't wait for your good news!
Again, congratulations!

@naomi

Hi, thank you for your comments...
Actually, I'm also thinking about that.. But, I really can't. first.. Simply because it's not our culture.
Second.. He might feel pressured if I do so..
Third... I don't want to ruin our friendship just in case he doesn't feel the same way..
Fourth.. It's a suicide.. I'm totally shy! Hehe

P.S.. Actually, I didn't delete the other posts.. I don't know who did it.

Re: I can't understand him 2014/8/11 17:47
Iku, can I ask how old are you and the guy you like? Of course it's not easy to confess to someone you like, I've been there, I've got rejected and some cases it actually did lead to a relationship. I am dating Japanese man as well so I know how their culture goes but I truly believe if he is aware of your feelings he might fell for you or he might tell you he's not into you, either way, don't you just want to know and stop analyzing his behavior?

It's better to know as early as possible before you fell in love with him. Maybe you can write him a letter how you feel?

@naomi

I'm 21. He is turning 24.

I get your point.. And thank you for telling me that.
But I'm not in a rush... And for now, I'm not yet ready to take the risk.
