2D/1N Tokyo & 2D/2N Kyoto 2014/8/5 15:03
Hi Everyone,

I will be travelling to Tokyo (for 2D/1N) Mt Fuji Climb) & after which to Kyoto (for 3D/2N Alpine Route Tour).
I only have 1 Day & 2 Nights to cover Tokyo and like to seek your advice on places to visit. I will be staying at Shinjuku area so am thinking to spend 1 night exploring there.
For the other full day, I am thinking to cover (in the order of) Shibuya, Harajuku, Meiji Shrine, Asakusa Shrine & shopping district and Sky-Tree. Any feedback on this? And after Sky-Tree, where to recommend? I see many comments on The Robot Show – is it something worth going?
For accessing to these areas, would you recommend to get a JR pass?

For Kyoto, I will be spending about 2 days there. I know that Fushimi Inari Shrine and Kinkaku-ji Temple are not to be missed. What other sites are recommended too?

Thank you.

Best regards

It will be very hard to cover all those areas in one single day. A usual day would allow you to cover Shibuya, Harajuku and Meiji Shrine. Shibuya is a shopping district and it shines the most in the evening rather than during the day, although it's busy all the time. I'm sorry, but you seemed to underestimate how long would it take to see and most importantly enjoy Tokyo.

A Japan Rail Pass will pay off if you use it for the whole trip, yes.

Regarding Kyoto, I wouldn't miss Arashiyama, Kiyomizudera, Nishiki Market and Gion district.

Hello!(^-^)/
About Tokyo, as Aerond said, it looks a bit busy.

1)If you don't love Harajuku and Shibuya so much...
In the morning, Meiji shrine and Harajuku.
(JR Yamanote line)
Lunch at Shibuya.
(Ginza subway line)
And then Asakusa and SkyTree.

2)If you want to enjoy shopping at Harajuku and Shibuya...
In the morning, Asakusa and lunch at SkyTree.
(Hanzomon subway line)
Meiji shrine and Harajuku.
(JR Yamanote line)
Shibuya.

Note: Meiji shrine and Asakusa are closed early.

Thanks all for the feedback :) we are more into culture and scenic tour and not so much into shopping, maybe just souvenirs or some local food to bring back from family & friend. I see that there are agents organizing 1/2 or 1 day tour to some of these areas too...is it better to take these or the places are convenient for self access? I am asking because I can get lost very easily :(
